EU: Are We Cloud Sovereign Yet?

How close are we to achieving these goals?

• All EU governments have their IT infrastructure running on machines situated in the EU, running software under EU control.
• EU businesses have viable EU alternatives to foreign IT infrastructure for all common tasks (Office, Email, Collaboration, Storage etc.)
• Small EU businesses have EU based, turnkey solutions for office automation with the same ease-of-use as current market leaders.

We Need a Central EU Government Initiative

When I search for EU business office/cloud alternatives I find, at best, some scattered offerings. There are lots of articles decrying the IT sovereignty problem the EU currently has, but I do not see a central site offering governments and businesses concrete solutions and alternatives.

This is the sort of thing governments are good for. Commerce will not self-organize to provide a central authority. The EU is spending lots of money on related initiatives but I see no concrete results, no central site providing lists of EU alternatives we can all switch to right now. There is a huge opportunity for EU infrastructure providers and the EU economy right here and it seems we are squandering it.
